Wild Horses

We drove to see wild horses. It’s a nature reserve one hour south-west of Leipzig. It’s called the Toten Täler (Death Valleys).

The area is quite large and we did not know if we would find the group of horses. We saw them after half an hour walking, without the kids it would have been ten minutes, yet it was OK to get distracted.

Nadine spotted them first through the binoculars.

We looked at the horses from afar and then they decided out of curiosity to come closer. At the end they nibbled on my backpack, we slowly backed off but also acknowledged that they are not as wild as people make it. Our theory is they frequently get fed by visitors and became tame.

We didn’t get any bird photos. A partridge appeared for a second and was gone. We’ll be back when it’s warmer, in spring the foals are supposed to be out. A group of hikers told us.
