Knights Games Trebsen
Went to see the annual Knights Games in Trebsen. We left Aika at Nadine’s grandmother and drove to Trebsen, west of Leipzig. We had been there four years ago over Pentecost but didn’t make it to the actual joust back then.
It’s a proper castle, complete with walls, a moat, a bridge and a tower. To our surprise but we also secretly hoped for, still rare for an event like this they even had vegan food, lentil burgers, hemp schnitzel, soup and vegan sausage, and as always Tilian went straight for a burger while Kellin didn’t like anything at all, after buying him something of course. Kellin and Tilian chose each one ride which ran without any motor, mostly carousels that someone kept spinning by hand with ropes and a crank.
The riding tournament only ran for an hour, which in the burning sun turned out to be a good length, and if you want a seat you should be at the arena at least 45 minutes early; which we have not. The tournament itself was put on like a theatre play and felt surprisingly progressive, with women knights, a lady of the castle and two rival sisters carrying the story, which for conservative provincial Saxony is pretty modern. The jousting did not feel fake, they even broke real lances. I managed to take a picture of the lance breaking but it turned out too blurry.
Nadine brought the Canon 1D-X while I used the Sony Alpha 6400.
