Afterburner

A few days ago, out of nowhere, I remembered a game I played at my cousins a lot, it was After Burner II on their Sega Mega Drive. I have been looking to scratch that itch on a Steam Deck.

A few years ago I played a lot of Ace Combat 7, VR and Non-VR on the Playstation. It is a different game compared to After Burner but is equally fun. So I looked for games that are similar to either one of them.

I played and finished Rogue Flight which is very similar to After Burner II. It is very short.

I tried Project Wingman, unfortunately it does not run well on the Steam Deck.

I got Ace Combat 7 (again) and started the campaign. It’s still a lot of fun and runns well enough on the Steam Deck.

I found AFTERBURN, not to be confused with Afterburner. It’s similar to Ace Combat but very light on the campaign design, it feels like a game you would put on an arcade machine. Tilian was watching me playing and annexed the Steam Deck. He quickly grasped the controls and started playing the endless mode, surviving more waves each playthrough.

I am convinced I am emulating Afterburner II by the end of this week on the Steam Deck.
